“I be Choy, these be my Designs.”
UK Based Graphic Designer.
Born in the South, raised in the North, and navigating through this wild world.
I have been interested in the arts for as long as I can remember. From a young age, I would usually be doodling or making things using craft supplies. I loved art at school and took it as a GCSE option when the time came. When I left school and moved onto A-Levels, I took Graphic Design and Photography to keep myself in the arts. After completing my A-Levels, I went onto become a Cyber Security Apprentice within nationwide organisations. I was responsible for the management and maintenance of the Project Management Office mailboxes, prioritising and assigning emails to the relevant work area, and contacting and organising meetings with stakeholders. Though I was studying something completely different, I was constantly drawing and creating things using Microsoft Paint as I didn’t have proper supplies. During this time, I even landed my first commission work for a band to create their new album cover. I decided that I wanted to pursue a career in Graphic Design and went onto study a Foundation Degree in Graphic Communication; a Cardiff Metropolitan University course ran via Cardiff and Vale College.
I have recently completed my Foundation Degree, passing with a 2:1. During these two years, I have gained a lot of useful skills, including typography and composition disciplines, editorial and publicity design, illustration and interactive web design. I was able to put my skills into practice during my internship at the Wales Millennium Centre working under the director of RawFfest, an annual youth arts festival. Both my apprenticeship and internship have given my excellent communication skills when talking to both colleagues and people I do not know; I can adjust my approach to suit the situation professionally.
